Home

hope

Cages of steel and stones
When shaken
Crumble into dust and bones
Fickle
Too weak
To hold
All the dreams we’d weaved into them
Home had always been more than a house
Home had been our hearts
And when the heart got shattered
When the homes went scattered
We stood
And watched
We’d stumbled
And watched
When the homes went scattered
And when the heart got shattered
We’d close our eyes and count the pieces
Our cages of steels and stones had been too weak to hold us
But we had always been too strong to lose our hope
We were just strong enough to hold on to our shattered pieces
To begin rebuilding them
Piece by broken piece
Dust and bones
Scattered, then gathered
And we make our homes
More than just cages to escape from.
