Global goals Nepal
Project at a glance
The Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, are an inter- governmentally agreed set of targets relating to international development. UN General Assembly's Seventieth session has adopted 17 goals with 169 targets covering a broad range of sustainable development issues including ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, combating climate change, and protecting oceans and forests. These goals are set to take over the Millennium development goals at the end of year 2015. Nepal is one of the 189 countries committed to the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals as well. Nepal in last two decades has had astounding improvement in terms of increase in literacy rate, life expectancy and human development index overall. This can also be credited to the programs focused on MDGs and the aim of attainment of these set of ambitious development goals by the end of 2015. However, there is still immense need for reliable policies and strategies, especially in light of the post 2015 developmental agenda.
